10 Powerful Reasons to Pray Over Your Home
Your home is a sacred space where you spend most of your time; it’s where you rest, rejuvenate, and make memories with your loved ones.
As you go about your daily routine, you mustn’t forget the importance of praying over your home.
As a woman, wife, and mother, your home is your spiritual battlefield, and you are always on duty. And you also should remember that negative energies can influence your home in the world.
However, there is one powerful tool you can use to protect and transform your home—prayer.
With prayer, you can cover the physical building and the people that make your home.
What is the definition of the home?
A home has various definitions; to some, it is just an apartment building or a condo they either rented or bought.
Whereas, to some, a home is a person, usually someone with whom they share romantic feelings.
However, to us, a home shares a much deeper meaning, and while it describes a building and the people in it, it also brings into utmost consideration the God factor.
A home can be defined from a Christian perspective as a place of shelter and security where a family or community gathers to worship God, provide for one another, and carry out God’s purpose. The idea of home and the concepts of family and community are intertwined in the Bible.
Joshua 24:15 says, “But as for me and my household, we will serve the Lord.” This verse is one of the most well-known references to home in the Bible; it points out the value of a godly home when all family members serve the Lord together.
In summary, a Christian home is a place where love, grace, and forgiveness are extended to family members and guests alike.
It is where God’s presence is felt, and His will is carried out in daily life.
Importance of praying over your home
There are so many reasons why a woman should pray over her home, and here are some irresistible ones:
- Get rid of the devil’s schemes.
A powerful approach to defeat the devil’s plans and keep him out of your home is to pray over it. When you pray, you open your home to God’s presence and protection, which makes it challenging for the enemy to work. By asking God to reveal and stop the enemy’s schemes, you can also detect any possible areas of attack in your home.
- Invite God into your home (Joshua 24:15).
An effective way to invite God into your home is to pray over it. Inviting God into your home allows His love, joy, and peace to fill every corner. It might change the atmosphere of your home and turn it into a haven for peace and rest.
- Set up protective barriers around your home.
Praying for your home is like building a wall of defense around it. You can pray to God to protect your family and home from harm and danger, easing your mind and increasing your sense of security and safety in your house.
- Set up a solid foundation for your home (Matthew 7:24-27).
Praying over your home will help you build a solid foundation for it. You can ask God to bless your home with His wisdom, understanding, and knowledge, which can help you make wise decisions and create a strong foundation for your family.
- To have a consciousness of God.
Praying over your home also helps you develop a deep consciousness of God. When you pray, you will become more aware of God’s presence and love for you; it will radiate and give you peace.
This will help you stay focused on Him and lead a more God-centered life.
- To provide a spiritual covering over everyone.
Praying over your home will provide a spiritual covering for your entire family, especially when you mention their names. You can ask God to protect your family members and fill them with His love, peace, and joy.
- To stand as a watchman over your home.
A watchman sees danger from afar off and alerts the people of the house. When and if danger comes, it catches them prepared.
Praying over your home will help you stand as a watch(wo)man. You can ask God to help you see areas where your home may be vulnerable and give you the wisdom to protect your home and family.
- To instill God into your kids (Deuteronomy 6:6-9).
Praying over your home can help you instill a love for God into your children and to grow in their faith. Also, your children observe your faith-filled actions, and it’s easier to follow God by following in your footsteps.
It will help your children develop a strong foundation in God and live a God-centered life against the norms.
- To stay in alignment with God’s plans (Psalm 127:1).
Praying over your home will help you align with God’s plans. When you pray, you seek God’s guidance, among many others. Prayer also makes it easy for you to obey God because it keeps your heart submissive to God, especially if you’re consistent.
You can ask God in prayer to give you wisdom and direction for your family and help you make decisions that align with His will and purpose.
- To strengthen family bonds.
A family that prays together stays together!
Praying over your home will help you strengthen your family bonds.
When you pray together as a family, you create a space for God’s love and peace to fill every member and every room. This will bring your family closer together and help you build stronger relationships with one another.
How to pray over your home
Do we have an exact template for praying over our home?
The best template would definitely be according to the leading of the Spirit of God. However, I can give you some tips on praying over your home.
Just like the movie, ‘War Room,’ it’s essential to learn how to pray over your home, and from there, you can start to get more personal with God and discover the best and most effective way to pray for your home.
Here are some ways to pray over your home:
- Room by room
This method is one of my favorite ways to pray over my home. You can cover everyone and everything important to you. Pray for protection, peace, and God’s presence in each room.
As you pray for each room in your home, consider the activities that take place there and the people who spend time in that room. Pray for the bedroom as a place of rest and renewal, the kitchen as a place of nourishment and fellowship, and the living room as a place of relaxation and connection. You can also pray for any specific needs or concerns related to each room.
- Prayer walk
This praying pattern for your home is incredibly best when you’ve just moved into a new building. You should always establish a new atmosphere conducive to your family’s spiritual health.
Ask God to guide your steps and direct your prayers during a prayer walk. Walk through each room of your home, praying for God’s presence and protection. You can also pray for the neighborhood and community around your home, asking for God’s peace and blessing to be upon them.
- In agreement
This pattern of praying also allows you to engage the kids, giving them a sense of spiritual responsibility, and can help cultivate a praying spirit.
Praying in agreement means that each person agrees on what they are praying for and believes that God will answer their prayers—a powerful way to pray because it shows unity and faith. You can lead your family in prayer by praying out loud and asking each person to repeat after you.
- Praying for each family member
Praying over your home hugely involves praying over each family member.
You put yourself in a place of intercession and prayerfully cover them.
As you pray for each family member, be specific in your prayers. Ask God to give them wisdom, strength, and guidance in all they do. Pray for their physical, emotional, and spiritual needs and any specific concerns or challenges they may face.
- Prophetic decrees
These decrees are a powerful way to involve God in the affairs of your home, which involves you taking the post of a prophet over your home and family.
Speaking prophetic decrees means speaking out God’s promises and plans for your family and home. You can ask God for specific words or visions and then speak them in faith. Prophetic decrees can be powerful because they show that you trust God’s plans and believe in His power to bring them to pass.
I love praying over my home with prophetic decrees because they are filled with authority. You can practically feel the spiritual tension in the air, and it always feels good to watch God fighting for you.
- Gratitude (a heart full of praise)
Always take a moment to appreciate God for the prayers he has answered.
Gratitude is crucial to praying over your home as it moves God to do more!
Cultivating a heart of gratitude has always been an essential part of prayer. Thank God for His provision, protection, and presence in your life. Express your thankfulness for the specific blessings in your home and family, and acknowledge His goodness and faithfulness in all things.
- With scriptures
Using the Scripture as a foundation for your prayers is a powerful way to pray, similar to prophetic decrees.
God’s word is a sure word of prophecy; the scriptures contain God’s desires and promises for us as individuals and our homes.
To pray with the scriptures, choose verses that speak to your heart and reflect the desires of your prayers. Declare God’s promises and speak His truth over your home and family. You can also pray through specific scripture passages, such as the Psalms, to guide your prayers.
