Level up your child’s Bedtime Routine in 2024 with story time!

Does your bedtime routine sound like this?

“Ok kids, it’s bed-time!” says Daddy.

“Oh no, but Daddy….um I’m still hungry and I’m not sleepy yet” says the 3 yr old.

“Oh no, Daddy no beb-bime.” mumbles the 1 yr old

Fast forward 2 hours later, and both kids are still wide awake and playing “hide-and-go-seek” as they trade beds. This has been our bedtime routine for a few months now. And sadly, Daddy and I became too tired to try a new bedtime routine. So we just waited them out, knowing that eventually they would give up and fall asleep. But it just seemed as if our adrenaline depletes and gets transferred to our kids at bedtime.

We have tried everything from nighttime baths with lavender and eucalyptus, warm milk before bed, a bedtime chant, and prayer time to dimming the lights and adjusting the temperature in their bedroom. Nothing was working! Have you been there? Are you currently there with your little ones? Welcome to the club!

Bedtime Routine: Try something new!

So what’s changed, huh?  Well, one day, I decided to try something I know my little ones loved and enjoyed from birth….Story-time!! You see, I began reading to my kids while they were in the womb. My first baby book got me through the sleepless uncomfortable nights of pregnancy and helped calm my cartwheeling night owls. Yes, they both did cartwheels at night in my belly, which kept me awake most nights.

So one day, I reached for a bedtime book in hopes that it would capture their attention and ease their minds right to sleep. Well, it worked for a few weeks until they began to memorize each line in the story. Slowly, they became uninterested because they already knew how the story would end.

And before you know it, I was back at the drawing board. In my search to keep them engaged and maintain our bedtime routine, I found the Tiny Truths Illustrated Bible! The Tiny Truths Illustrated Bible leveled up our bedtime routine big time!!! Now when my kids hear the word “BEDTIME”, they are excited! They now look forward to hearing a new story from God’s Word before bed.

And they are sure to remind me whenever I forget. The stories are short, concise, and easy for my little ones to understand. The character images surrounding each story allow them to make a connection with each story. Each page is made with premium quality and is not easily torn. And it even comes in a durable hard book cover!

About The Tiny Truths Illustrated Bible

The Tiny Truths Illustrated Bible and Tiny Truths: Wonder and Wisdom were collaboratively created, written, and illustrated by Tim Penner and Jo Rivard. The duo, friends since long before, has been producing children’s content together since 2011, spanning interactive book apps, print books, games, and crafts.

Their creative journey reflects a deep belief in the significance and transformative power of storytelling. The Tiny Truths series represents the culmination of years spent writing, scribbling, drawing, and sharing laughter, embodying their commitment to the compelling impact of stories on shaping young minds.

Story-time was a win-win for me and the kids!

As a faith-driven mom, what I love about this book is the opportunity that it gives me to teach and instill bite-sized lessons, truths, and reminders from God’s Word to my family. I firmly believe that parenting is a calling and ministry that God gives us. And we must be good stewards of what God has entrusted to us. Proverbs 22:6 says it best:

” Train up a child in the way he should go; And when he is old He will not depart from it.” – Proverbs 22:6

One of my goals as a mother is to fulfill Proverbs 22:6  by laying a strong biblical foundation while my little ones are young. Prayerfully, when they come of age, that foundation will ring true and guide their decisions and actions.
