Osmo Math Wizard and the Secrets of the Dragons: Review

Hey mama, thanks for stopping by! Today, I’ll be reviewing a new addition to our Osmo Math Wizard series. Osmo Math Wizard is a math series that focuses on building basic math skills. Our first Osmo Math Wizard toy was the Magical Workshop, and it was an immediate hit with my son. Check out my Instagram review here. The Magical Workshop focuses on the concepts of addition and subtraction. We looked forward to adding the Osmo Math Wizard and the Secret of the Dragons to our collection. And yes, I do mean collection.

Osmo Overview

I believe the Osmo play system should be in every home and classroom starting at age 3. It’s a fun, hands-on way to learn fundamental education concepts like spelling, writing, and math. The magic of Osmo is that it’s both hands-on and software-based. It uses customized tangible pieces for tactile stimulation and is curriculum-based. Each curriculum is housed in an app designed for iPads and Fire Tablets. Osmo comes in Starter Kits and bundles and requires an Osmo base for the full experience. Osmo Math Wizard/Secret of the Dragons Review

Osmo Math Wizard is a math series that focuses on building basic math skills. Here's a fun way to teach Units of Measurements using Osmo Secrets of Dragons. Interactive Math adventure perfect for 1st and 2nd Graders!

Osmo Math Wizard and the Secrets of Dragons is the second edition of the original Math Wizard series. Secret of the Dragons focuses on the concept of measurement. Our kit came with a cool dragon guidebook that stores over 60 food tokens, two rulers for measurement, a map, and a postcard to activate our new adventure. This series is perfect for Grades 1 & 2, ages 6-8 years old.

My son and I were very impressed at how easy it was to jump into our new adventure. He was able to easily identify the pieces needed to complete each activity using the tokens provided and interact with the screen. Secret of the Dragons uses a guidebook that takes your child through a series of activities until they are able to find a dragon.

Once a dragon is discovered, the guidebook is used to determine its size and features. The rulers provided are to measure the size of the dragons and determine their age based on the measurements found. The food tokens help to measure and feed the dragons, which teaches an additional concept of measurement. Furthermore, the guidebook has blank spaces for your child to keep track of the dragons they’ve discovered and things they’ve learned along the way.

Our Osmo Secrets of the Dragons Experience

My son was able to learn the first concept of measuring with a ruler during our first activity and now knows the difference between inches and centimeters. What a super cool mom moment! The magic is always in the way Osmo is able to integrate real-world actions into the virtual experience. In Secrets of the Dragons, ruler measurements and feeding of the dragons using food tokens are mirrored onto the screen in real-time. It truly is the ultimate interactive experience.

Once again, Osmo has far exceeded my expectations and will continue to be a favorite in our room. Prior to playing this game, my son had no knowledge of measurements and had not learned to use a ruler. He and I look forward to continuing our adventures in Math Wizard and the Secrets of Dragons!
