Hey there, mama. Happy July! Today, I want to talk about screen time! I don’t know about you, but I am so guilty of allowing my kid unlimited screen time lately. Honestly, it’s been so easy just to put a YouTube video or movie on their iPads to give me a breather. During this quarantine,  I’ve run out of ways to entertain them. The magic of Osmo is that it’s not your typical automated game system or app. It is real-time play and real-time learning through live interaction. As your child interacts with the system through tangible pieces, it responds and makes adjustments. Osmo is able to take your child’s interactions and scan them onto the screen like magic. Your child is able to see their creations, responses, and creative work alongside the digital animations within the app. Super cool, right?!!

Osmo comes in age-appropriate starter kits and is perfect for children ages 3-12. It works in conjunction with an iPad or Fire tablet. Each kit comes with a base and red mirror reflector, which allows tactile learning to be projected and scanned to your iPad or tablet screen. Setting up the unit is very easy. We were up and running in less than 20 minutes. Please note the unit does require parents to download the accompanied apps that are specific to the starter kit. Simply follow these quick steps, and the magic unfolds.

1. Connect your Ipad with the base provided.
2. Attach the red mirror reflector to your device’s camera
3. Place the creative board directly in front of the base.
4. Download and Launch the Osmo app on your device.

My little CJ is a tech guru at the age of 5. He was introduced very early to technology by his techy parents and adapts faster than I can imagine at times. He’s always loved taking apart his toy cars to put them back together meticulously. He’s a natural problem solver and engineer.  So, my goal has been to nurture those skills by exposing him to any resources that will help with his development.
